The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry does not advise Ukrainians to travel to Tunisia for rest due to the escalation of the security situation in this country, the ministry's consular service department has reported on its Facebook page.

"The tourist season is beginning in Tunisia. In this regard, we recommend that Ukrainian tourists take into account the security risks existing in this country due to the increased level of a terrorist threat, the probability of protest rallies, etc. It should also be borne in mind that the ongoing armed conflict in neighboring Libya and the complicated domestic political situation in Algeria have a negative impact on the situation in Tunisia," the report reads.

The ministry advised the Ukrainians who already stay in Tunisia to follow the following recommendations:

- to show increased vigilance and caution, refrain from visiting crowded places, not to take part in protests, demonstrations, and other mass events, not to enter into disputes with the local population on religious and socio-political issues;

- to always carry identity documents that certify the legality of stay in Tunisia, strictly comply with the requirements and instructions of representatives of local law enforcement agencies; if possible, to have a mobile phone with a SIM card of a local mobile operator (SIM cards can be purchased at all international airports of Tunisia upon presentation of a foreign passport of Ukraine);

- not to leave without an urgent need the places of organized rest, which are guarded and supervised by the security forces, to limit travel at night as much as possible;

- to refrain from traveling to the Tunisian provinces of Kasserine, Kef, Sidi Bouzid, Kebili, Kairouan, Tataouine, Medenine, the town of Douz, as well as to the areas neighboring Libya and Algeria;

- when willing to travel around the country, it is necessary to choose group excursions on classical routes, accompanied by a representative of the tour operator or the company organizing the tour;

- when choosing a place to rest, to prefer hotels located in the country's largest tourist centers (the cities of Tunis, Hammamet, Sousse, Mahdia, Nabeul, Monastir, Tabarka, Tozeur, Djerba Island, etc.).

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry warned that it has limited capacity to respond promptly to emergency situations involving Ukrainian citizens in certain regions of Tunisia since the departure of Ukrainian diplomats to these regions is possible only after permission is obtained from the local foreign ministry.

In the event of an emergency, threats to the safety and life of Ukrainian citizens, it is necessary to immediately contact law enforcement agencies of Tunisia (personally or by phone number 197) and Ukraine's Embassy in Tunisia by phone number (+216) 94 127 342.
