Japan to provide $2 mln grant for purchase of equipment for Ukraine’s National Public Broadcasting Company

Ukraine and Japan concluded an interstate agreement on a grant for the purchase of special equipment for the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine to the tune of over $2 million.

 “On 18 April 2019, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Takashi Kurai held a solemn ceremony of exchange of diplomatic notes which constitute an Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of Japan on granting of non-project grant for the purchase of special equipment for the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (NSTU) and signed Agreed Minutes on Procedural Details and Record of Discussions to the above Agreement,” the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reports.

In accordance with these documents, the Government of Japan shall extend a grant of 230 million Japanese Yen (more than 2 million of US dollars) for the purchase of broadcasting equipment for the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine within the framework of the project for capacity development of public service broadcaster.

Pavlo Klimkin thanked the Japanese side for its financial and economic assistance during all years of Ukrainian independence, as well as for its consistent support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity on the international arena.

Before the ceremony, the heads of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and the Embassy of Japan also held a short meeting during which they discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, measures to enhance political dialogue, development of collaboration in the trade and economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres of mutual interest.
