Larysa Sarhan, spokesperson for Ukraine's prosecutor general, wrote this on her Facebook page.
"The State Bureau of Investigations is carrying out a pre-trial investigation in a criminal proceeding of April 16, 2019 regarding the receipt by Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Sytnyk of an unlawful benefit in a particularly large amount from Dmytro Kriuchkov and other unidentified individuals, using his authority or official status granted, in the interests of the person who gives an unlawful benefit or in the interests of a third person, on the grounds of a criminal offense stipulated by Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," she wrote.
Sarhan also specified that procedural control in criminal proceedings was being carried out by the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
In addition, according to her, the SBI is conducting an investigation in a criminal proceeding regarding the "provision" of an unlawful benefit to the NABU director by a former MP, chairman of the board of PJSC Energomerezha Holding Company Kriuchkov and other unidentified individuals.
Earlier, the media published a statement by Kriuchkov that NABU Director Sytnyk received a $500,000 bribe from Energomerezha for assistance in an investigation.
Kriuchkov, suspected of causing damage to the state in the amount of over UAH 346 million, was arrested in Germany on April 14, 2018, and later released on bail. He was extradited from Germany to Ukraine on April 15.
On April 17, Solomiansky District Court in Kyiv is selecting a measure of restraint for Kriuchkov.
Kriuchkov is a suspect in the case on the withdrawal of funds from Zaporizhiaoblenergo, in which more than 60% of the shares belong to the state. According to the investigation, Kriuchkov is the organizer of a scheme, according to which OJSC Zaporizhiaoblenergo and state-owned enterprise Energorynok incurred losses totaling more than UAH 346 million.
Kriuchkov was elected an MP of the Verkhovna Rada of the fifth convocation from the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc. He was a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety.
