The number of illegal migrants detained for illegal crossing of Ukraine's border has increased by 26% compared to last year, Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Artur Pimenov has said.

He said this at a visiting interagency meeting, according to a report posted on the website of the State Border Guard Service.

"Some 4,646 people were refused entry into Ukraine in 2018, including 95% at air border crossing points. Joint preventive measures or operations helped identify more than 2,000 foreigners who violated the terms of stay in Ukraine," Pimenov said.

He added that the number of detained illegal migrants had grown by 26% due to the illegal crossing of the border due to a 24% increase in the number of detained illegal migrants, in particular, citizens of Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkey, Iraq and India, on the border with the EU, especially on the Ukrainian-Polish, Romanian and Slovak sections of the border.
