The Kyiv City Council has renamed Ivana Kudri street in Kyiv to John McCain street.

A total of 71 deputies of the Kyiv City Council voted in favor of the relevant decision, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

Former U.S. Senator John McCain was known for his support for Ukraine. During the Revolution of Dignity, the senator visited Kyiv and came to the Independence Square, where thousands of Ukrainians were rallying for pro-European course of the country.

He also called on the U.S. authorities to help Ukraine with weapons, because lack of assistance "only encouraged Putin" to escalate the conflict with Ukraine.

John McCain died on August 25, 2018 at the age of 81.
