Japan welcomed over 31 million foreign tourists in 2018, including more than 8 thousand visitors from Ukraine.

Second Secretary of the Economic Section of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine Yasuhiro Ikuta stated this, UA|TV reported.

"Since 2012, Japan has seen a rapid increase in visitors. More than 31 million foreign tourists visited the country in 2018. More than 40 million foreign visitors are expected in 2020, when Japan will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games," he said.

He also noted that due to the simplified visa regime, the number of Ukrainian tourists visited Japan last year grew by 30% and amounted to more than 8 thousand people. The diplomat added that a lot of visitors from Ukraine arrive in April (cherry blossom season) and in October (peak season for autumn leaves viewing).
