Conference ‘History of Heavenly Hundred’ held in Washington. Photos

The United States Congress hosted the conference "History of the Heavenly Hundred" on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the death of the Heroes of Heavenly Hundred, the participants in the Euromaidan protests in 2013-2014 in Kyiv, Ukraine.

"The conference reaffirmed the solidarity of the United States with Ukraine on its path to the European and Euro-Atlantic future and the values, ​​for which the people struggled during the Revolution of Dignity and for which the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred paid the highest price - their lives," the press service of the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States reports.

The event was organized on February 8 by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States. Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Valery Chaly delivered a speech at the conference.

The event was attended by Congressional Ukraine Caucus Chairs, Congressmen Andy Harris and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick; Congressman Brendan Boyle; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent; President of the National Endowment for Democracy Carl Gershman, Ukrainian Congress Committee of America President Andriy Futey, Director of the Ukrainian National Information Service Mykhailo Savkiv, representatives of US political science centers, Ukrainian and American journalists.

Ukraine marks the Day of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred annually on February 20 in honor of the feat of the participants in the Revolution of Dignity and the commemoration of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. The largest number of the Euromaidan participants was killed on February 20, 2014.

In general, the revolutionary events of 2013-2014 winter claimed lives of more than a hundred Maidan activists. Apart from Ukrainians, the victims of Yanukovych's regime became the citizens of Belarus, Armenia and Georgia. All of them formed the memorial of the fighters for the Ukrainian Independence - the Heavenly Hundred.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine to 104 Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred posthumously, including three foreigners (citizen of Belarus Mikhail Zhiznevsky, citizens of Georgia Zurab Khurtsia and David Kipiani).
