Ukraine’s Employment Service reports on decrease in unemployment rate in 2018

The number of registered unemployed in Ukraine decreased by 45,000 people in 2018 compared to 2017.

Valeriy Yaroshenko, the acting head of the State Employment Service (Central Office) stated this at a press conference at Ukrinform

"The year 2018 showed stability in the labor market of Ukraine, the situation even improved in some areas. As of January 28, 2019, 340,000 Ukrainians were registered with the State Employment Service, which is 45,000 less than last year," Yaroshenko said.

According to a labor market study conducted by the International Labor Organization, the number of employed people in Ukraine grew by 185,000 in 2018. And as of today, there are 16.400 million employees.

In percentage terms, the employment rate rose from 56.3% to 57.2%, while the unemployment rate decreased from 9.4% to 8.6%. In general, about 2 million citizens applied to employment centers throughout Ukraine in 2018, of whom 826 thousand then got jobs.
