Honorary consulate of Slovak Republic opens in Kharkiv

The opening ceremony was attended by Slovakian foreign minister Miroslav Lajčák, Ukrainian foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin and chairwoman of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Yulia Svetlychna, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Last time I was in Kharkiv in October 2018, and I am glad to return to the region. There are three reasons for this. First, Kharkiv is a beautiful city. Second, we have many interesting cooperation projects. Third, we have a huge potential for the development of our contacts in the future. That is why we decided to open an honorary consulate in the city of Kharkiv," Lajčák said.

The opening of the consulate will allow using unique friendly human relations, including the business and economic ones, Pavlo Klimkin added.

Speaking about the areas of cooperation, Svetlychna outlined the following priorities: opening of industrial sites in Slovakia, cooperation in the development of machine building, food industry, energy saving, humanitarian and educational projects.

"The Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic is already the 14th diplomatic institution opened in Kharkiv region. All the joint projects, which will be implemented in Kharkiv, will be effective. I hope that we will have even more of them thanks to the honorary consulate," the chairwoman of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration added.

As honorary consul of the Slovak Republic in Kharkiv, chairman of the board of the FED Corporation Viktor Popov said at the opening ceremony, the task of the consulate will be to further strengthen the Ukraine-Slovakia relations.
