Ukrainians name politician and event of the year – poll

Director of the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation Iryna Bekeshkina stated this when representing the results of a nationwide sociological study, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Petro Poroshenko has been named the politician of the year in 2018, as well as last year,” she said.

According to her, 16% of respondents named the current President "the politician of the year", while last year this figure totaled 10%.

Bekeshkina also said that 24% of respondents named the decision to give the Tomos of autocephaly to Ukraine, the unification of Orthodox churches of Ukraine into the single Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the main event of the year 2018.

She stressed that these were free-answer questions, people on their own named an event and a politician, that’s why the percentage ratio was not high.
