Official Ottawa congratulates Metropolitan Epifaniy on his election as Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
“Canada congratulates Metropolitan Epifaniy on his election as head of the new Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” reads the statement on Canada’s Foreign Policy Twitter account.
As noted, the establishment of the Church is “a historic moment for religious freedom and Ukraine.”
As reported, the unification council of the local Orthodox Church of Ukraine took place at the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv on December 15. The clergy elected Metropolitan Epifaniy as the head of the new Orthodox Church of Ukraine, who will receive a tomos (decree) of autocephaly.
