The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the UN General Assembly’s Resolution adopted on December 17, 2018, expressing grave concern over the increasing militarization of Crimea as well as parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

“The UN General Assembly has again sent a clear rebuke to the Kremlin’s illegal annexation and occupation of Crimea and other Ukrainian territories,” the UWC’s President Paul Grod stated.

"As Russia continues to escalate its military presence and provocations against Ukraine, the international community must deliver a tangible response by increasing sanctions against Russia and enhancing military support for Ukraine," Grod said, commenting on the adoption of the resolution.

The resolution also condemns the Russian Federation’s construction and opening of the Kerch Strait bridge between the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied Crimea.  It went on to condemn the military maneuvers of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, and Russia’s recent military aggression in the Kerch Strait against the Ukrainian navy. The UN calls for the Russian Federation to release immediately and unconditionally the three captured Ukrainian ships and twenty-three crew members. It also calls on the Russian Federation to stop the harassment of commercial vessels and restriction of international shipping in the region.

The resolution was co-authored by 40 nations and adopted with 66 votes to 19.
