Aeschlimann: ICRC making every effort to help Ukrainian sailors
"December 10, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Rozenko met with Head of the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine Alain Aeschlimann. During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues related to ensuring access to Ukrainian sailors, who had been captured on November 25 as a result of Russian aggression against Ukrainian naval ships in the water area of the Kerch Strait," the Government portal reports.
The ICRC is taking all possible measures to gain access and provide assistance to Ukrainian sailors, Aeschlimann stressed.
Rozenko and Aeschlimann also discussed the cooperation between Ukraine and the ICRC regarding the assistance to the Ukrainian citizens, who are held in places of detention in the territory of the Russian Federation and the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the enhancement of cooperation in search for the missing persons and other issues.
As reported, on November 25, Russian border ships committed the acts of aggression against three Ukrainian ships heading from the port of Odesa to the port of Mariupol. The Russian special forces fired and seized three Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait and 24 sailors aboard.
