In January-September 2018, the U.S. citizens adopted 138 children from Ukraine.

As the Social Policy Ministry of Ukraine reports, the United States is one of the strategic partners of Ukraine in the field of child adoption.

The number of U.S. citizens who want to adopt a child in Ukraine is persistently high, the Ministry notes.

"However, there has been a gradual decrease in the number of children adopted by the U.S. citizens in recent years. In 2014, 431 children were adopted; 299 children were adopted in 2015; 301 children - in 2016; 138 children - in January-September 2018," the report reads.

Out of the total number of children adopted by the U.S. citizens, 25% are children with special needs and almost 50% are teenagers.
