‘Candle of remembrance’ to commemorate Holodomor victims lit in Armenia, Mozambique, Australia and Azerbaijan

September 7-9, the activists in Armenia, Mozambique, Australia and Azerbaijan joined the international action "Light a candle of remembrance" to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-33 in Ukraine.

On September 7, the Federation of Ukrainians in Armenia “Ukraina” joined the international action “Light a candle of remembrance” and honoured the memory of the millions who died in the Holodomor.

The same day, a small Ukrainian community in Mozambique appealed to the country’s authorities with a request to support and recognize the greatest Ukrainian tragedy of the 20th century.

"We hope the Republican Assembly [the country’s parliament] will recognize the Holodomor as the genocide of Ukrainian people and the crime against humanity," Ukrainians emphasized.

On 8 September 2018 in Melbourne, Australia, a candle of remembrance in memory of the victims of the Holodomor was lit during the 20th Teachers’ Convention of the Ukrainian Central School Board of Australia (UCSBA). The teachers resolved to further Holodomor studies in the educational curriculum.

On September 9, near the monument to Taras Shevchenko in the center of Baku, Ukrainian diplomats and representatives of diaspora organizations held the event on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor.

On September 1, 85 days before the Holodomor remembrance day, Ukraine and the world began to honor the victims killed during the genocide of 1932-1933. Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, the People's Republic of China have already joined the international action “Light a candle of remembrance.”
