A memorial plaque on the building of the former diplomatic mission of the West Ukrainian People's Republic was opened in the Canadian city of Winnipeg.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Andriy Shevchenko took part in the opening ceremony. The event was also attended by representatives of Ukrainian diaspora organizations, many of which historically have their central offices in Winnipeg, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
The diplomatic mission of the West Ukrainian People's Republic operated in Winnipeg in 1920-1923. The young state, although it did not receive a general official recognition, opened its representative offices in Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Britain, Canada and established diplomatic relations with several other states.
