Parliament approves law on preserving UNESCO World Heritage sites

The Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the Protection of Cultural Heritage "(on preserving cultural heritage sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List)."

A total of 232 MPs voted for the relevant draft law, No.1553, as a whole, with at least 226 votes required to make a decision, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The law aims at ensuring the protection of cultural heritage objects inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List by defining the concept of World Heritage sites, their buffer zones, determining the procedure for establishing the regime of their use, determining the competence of the management bodies of such sites and their supervisory boards, establishing other management peculiarities etc.
