Ukrainian political prisoner Oleksandr Kolchenko, who was convicted in Russia, has ended his hunger strike due to the deterioration of his health.

His lawyer, Andrei Lepyokhin, wrote this on his Facebook page, posting Kolchenko's letter.

"Oleksandr Kolchenko today ended his hunger strike. According to him, he was very weak and started fainting. His blood sugar level dropped, and he has already received glucose. His weight dropped to 54 kilos during his hunger strike. They were going to move him from the sanitary unit of the penal colony, where he stayed during his hunger strike, to the prison hospital for medical reasons," he said.

As reported, Ukrainian political prisoner Oleksandr Kolchenko declared a hunger strike in late May demanding the release of Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov.

On May 14, Sentsov declared an indefinite hunger strike demanding the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia.

Sentsov and Kolchenko were detained by Russian security services in Crimea in May 2014 on charges of organizing terrorist attacks on the peninsula. In August 2015, the North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Sentsov to 20 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony on charges of terrorist activities in Crimea. Kolchenko was jailed for ten years. They did not admit their guilt.
