Special operation 'Babchenko' will have long-term consequences for Ukraine - Carpenter

Michael Carpenter, a former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Senior Director at the Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement at the University of Pennsylvania, has said that special operation "Babchenko" will have long-term consequences for Ukraine.

He said this in an interview with the Voice of America.

According to Carpenter, there will be long-term consequences that will concern confidence in the SBU and in government institutions, because people will now have doubt. Unfortunately, the next time when a tragedy happens and a journalist or dissident is killed, everyone will take a pause and think whether this news is true, Carpenter said.

According to Carpenter, Russia will certainly use this situation and cast doubt on the credibility of Western sources of information. This is especially dangerous at a time when media credibility in the world is decreasing, the expert said.
