The U.S. state of New York has recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as the genocide of Ukrainians.

"The Senate and the Assembly of the State of New York adopted a joint resolution dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, which recognizes this tragedy as the genocide of the Ukrainian people," the press service of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States reports.

As of now, nine U.S. states – Washington, Wisconsin, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Pennsylvania – have recognized the Holodomor in Ukraine as the genocide.

Massachusetts recognized the Holodomor as the genocide of the Ukrainian people in late March 2018.

In November last year, a resolution was adopted in Michigan determining November 25 as the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holodomor. Previously, Wisconsin recognized the Holodomor in 1932-1933 as the genocide of Ukrainians.
