Studying Ukrainian at Istanbul University: Poroshenko explains why it is important

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that the launch of a new degree program "Ukrainian language and literature" at the Istanbul University will help to deepen friendly relations between the countries.

"The degree program ‘Ukrainian language and literature’ has been launched at the oldest university in Turkey – the Istanbul University.  I believe that such a step will help us deepen the friendly relations between our countries," the Head of State wrote on Facebook.

Poroshenko noted that Ukraine and Turkey had continuous effective economic cooperation and recalled that during a recent telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan the parties had agreed on the early finalization of the FTA agreement.

On March 27, the first in Turkey degree program "Ukrainian language and literature" was solemnly launched at the Slavic Languages Department of ​​ Istanbul University with participation of the education ministers of Ukraine and Turkey, Lilia Hrynevych and Ismet Yilmaz, and Prof. Dr. Yekta Saraç, Chairman of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey.
