Activists in Helsinki mark Day of Resistance to Occupation of Crimea

"Ukrainians in Finland held a rally to mark the Day of Resistance to Occupation of Crimea near the Russian Embassy in Helsinki," Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Finland and Iceland Andriy Olefirov posted on his Twitter page.

On February 26, 2014, the several thousand strong rally of pro-Ukrainian activists, who supported the integrity of Ukraine, was held near the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. They were opposed by representatives of the Russian Unity party. On that day, the Verkhovna Rada of the ARC failed to approve the decision on the status of the "Russian Crimea". The next day, February 27, the Russian military personnel seized all the government buildings in Crimea, hoisted the Russian flags over them and blocked the Ukrainian military units. The day of February 26 was announced in Ukraine as the Day of Resistance to Occupation of Crimea.
