Ukrinform
Ukraine will propose that new Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic visit the occupied Crimea, First Deputy Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko has said.

"Our delegation to the PACE is planning to appeal to new Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic with the demand to visit the occupied Crimea, so that she could monitor terrible human rights violations, but most importantly, make an assessment that, in fact, there is a falsification of Russian elections there at this stage, when they involve Ukrainian citizens who simply cannot elect the president of Russia," Gerashchenko said live on the Priamy television channel on Thursday, February 1.

She said that Russia in the occupied peninsula was obliging Ukrainian citizens to get Russian passports, thus forcing them to vote in unlawful elections.

Gerashchenko said that this issue was to be raised at in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and during a session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
