More than a third of Ukrainians live in rural areas. Therefore, it is necessary to provide quality health care, in particular, through telemedicine consultations within the framework of decentralization reform.

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine Hennady Zubko said this at the press conference on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukraine has a peculiarity: 30 percent of our citizens live in rural areas. It’s a unique situation for Europe. Only 5-7 percent of the population of Germany, the Netherlands, France and other countries live in rural areas," Zubko said.

He noted that the largest rural population – 959,000 people – is in Lviv region.

In this context, Zubko recalled that the President of Ukraine had recently signed the law on increasing access to and quality of medical care in rural areas, which had been adopted by the parliament on his initiative.
