Ukrainian leaders lay flowers to monuments to Taras Shevchenko, Mykhailo Hrushevskyi in Kyiv

President Petro Poroshenko together with his wife Maryna Poroshenko laid flowers to the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv on the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine.
The flower-laying ceremony was attended by Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy, representatives of the city authorities and other officials, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
After that, the presidential couple together with other high-ranking officials paid tribute to the memory and laid flowers to the monument to Chairman of the Central Rada of the Ukrainian People's Republic Mykhailo Hrushevskyi.
According to the press service of the head of state, Poroshenko takes part in a solemn meeting on the occasion of the Day of Unity of Ukraine and the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Ukrainian People's Republic. The event is held at the Ukrainian House in Kyiv at 12:00.
