Activists demand to free Oleg Sentsov near Russian consulate in New York

On the New Year’s Eve, the activists held a rally near the Consulate-General of Russia in New York demanding to release political prisoner Oleg Sentsov.

Ukrainian and American documentary filmmaker and producer Andrei Zagdansky posted this on Facebook.

"We came and said: ‘Free Oleg Sentsov.’ We also said that we remembered him. We will think about him on the New Year's Eve. It was very cold," he wrote on Facebook.

Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov was detained by Russian security services in Crimea in May 2014.

On August 25, 2015, the North-Caucasian Military Court in Russia's Rostov-on-Don sentenced Oleg Sentsov to 20 years in a penal colony for alleged "plotting acts of terrorism." Another convict in the case, Oleksandr Kolchenko, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
