As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, the situation near the detention facility is calm. The facility is guarded by about a hundred law enforcement officers. The traffic in the Askoldiv Lane, where the detention is located, is blocked.
In the evening of December 8, Ukrainian law enforcers detained Saakashvili in the apartment of the former chief of the Main Department of the National Police in Luhansk region Yuri Pokynboroda. Saakashvili is accused of assistance to members of criminal organizations and covering up of their criminal activity (Part 2 of Article 256 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The prosecutor's office would ask the court to elect house arrest as a preventive measure against Saakashvili with an obligation to wear an electronic bracelet.
The lawyer of Saakashvili says that the preventive measure may be chosen for Saakashvili at a court hearing on Monday, December 11.
