There could be positive news about the release of Ukrainian hostages before the New Year, First Deputy Head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Gerashchenko has said.
She told this to reporters in parliament on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"We very much hope that there will be positive news before the New Year in the issue of the release of hundreds of those who are expecting their loved ones," she said.
At the same time, Gerashchenko said that now it was necessary to be careful in comments so as not to harm the negotiation process and recalled that the key to the release of all hostages was in the Kremlin.
Earlier, Gerashchenko reported that members of illegal armed groups in Donetsk and Luhansk regions were holding hostage 157 people. In addition, about two dozen Ukrainian citizens are imprisoned in Russia for political reasons.
