NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors are conducting searches at the place of registration and residence of a number of officials of the National Police as part of an investigation into the so-called "backpack case," a post on the Facebook page of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) says.

"In response to media requests, we inform that NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors conduct investigative actions (searches) at the place of registration and residence of a number of officials of the National Police as part of the investigation into the so-called 'backpack case.' The issue concerns individuals who control the processes of logistics and technical support and the logistics of structural subdivisions of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry," the statement reads.

Searches are carried out in Kyiv and Kyiv region.

On October 31, NABU arrested Oleksandr Avakov, the son of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, former Deputy Interior Minister Serhiy Chebotar and one more individual as part of the investigation into the case on the embezzlement of UAH 14 million during the purchase of backpacks for the National Guard.
