Joanne Rowling’s Lumos Foundation to reform orphanages in Ukraine

Lumos charitable foundation of world-renowned writer Joanne Rowling will reform the system of orphanages in Zhytomyr region as part of the pilot project.

This is stated in the press release of the National Deinstitutionalization Reform Office, NewWest Media reports.

"The representatives of the British Lumos Foundation will sign a memorandum of cooperation with Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children's Rights Mykola Kuleba and officials of the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration in Zhytomyr on October 31, 2017," the statement reads.

As stated, Lumos, which is funded by Harry Potter author, Joanne Rowling, will provide the orphanages in Zhytomyr region with technical, expert and methodological assistance in the implementation of a pilot project to stop institutionalization of children. In particular, the project aims to support troubled families to reduce the number of abandoned children and take measures to return children to their families.

The pilot project in Zhytomyr region will be coordinated by the National Deinstitutionalization Reform Office under the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children's Rights, established with the assistance of Canada's Expert Deployment for Governance and Economic Growth (EDGE) Project.
