First ceremony of Ukrainian National Film Awards to take place on April 20

This was announced at today’s press conference by Viktoria Tigipko, the President of the Odessa International Film Festival and the initiator of establishment of the Ukrainian Film Academy and the Ukrainian National Film Awards, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukrainian Oscar having its own excellent name starts on April 20. We love watching the Oscars ceremony in the USA and the BAFTA ceremony in the UK. Many other world countries have their own film awards. The time has come to launch the Ukrainian Film Awards," Tigipko said.

According to her, the situation in Ukrainian film production industry began to improve back in 2011. In 2016, a total of 30 feature length films and 223 short films took part in the competition of the Odessa International Film Festival. This indicates the industry is reviving and has promising future, Tigipko noted.
