EUR 200,000 will be allocated from the Pope for Ukraine Humanitarian Initiative to address the needs of residents of Avdiivka in Donetsk region, which recently suffered heavy shelling.

This was stated by Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti during his visit to Donbas, Chairman of the Donetsk Regional Military and Civil Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky wrote on his Facebook page.

"Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine announced that EUR 200,000 would be allocated from the Pope for Ukraine Humanitarian Initiative to address the needs of residents of Avdiivka. As you remember, Pope Francis announced last year a campaign, aimed at raising funds to help the people of Ukraine affected by the Russian aggression, including the internally displaced persons. A total of EUR 16 million was collected throughout Europe. Pope Francis already transferred EUR 5 million to support Ukrainians," Zhebrivsky wrote.
