Switzerland imposes new sanctions on Russia
According to Ukrinform, the announcement was published on the Swiss government’s website on Tuesday, June 16.
On June 15, 2026, the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) added 16 individuals and seven organizations to the existing sanctions lists.
The restrictive measures entered into force at 23:00 on June 16, 2026.
According to the statement, those sanctioned include so-called heads of youth affairs departments in Sevastopol and other Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine, as well as educators and leaders of children's organizations involved in ideological “re-education” programs targeting Ukrainian children.
Swiss authorities justified the sanctions by citing the individuals’ involvement in “implementing actions and policies involving the deportation or forced transfer, forced assimilation, including indoctrination, or militarised education of Ukrainian minors from occupied territories of Ukraine.”
The statement notes that the sanctioned persons are also implicated in the deportation or forced transfer of Ukrainian minors from occupied territories, as well as their forced assimilation.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, the EU Council approved a new package of sanctions against Russia on June 15, targeting the country's shadow fleet, energy revenues, and military-industrial complex.
On June 16, the United Kingdom introduced a new large-scale sanctions package aimed at Russia’s shadow fleet, LNG tankers, and financial networks used to circumvent Western restrictions.
Canada also expanded its sanctions against Russia, imposing restrictions on vessels belonging to the shadow fleet, as well as entities involved in the country’s energy sector and disinformation activities.
