U.S. planning to accelerate troop withdrawals from bases in Europe – media

Ukrinform
The United States is reportedly planning to speed up the withdrawal of troops from military bases in Europe and will present its proposals to NATO allies next month.

According to Reuters, Germany’s Welt am Sonntag reported this on Saturday, citing its own source within the Pentagon, Ukrinform reports.

Washington announced in May its intention to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany, a move widely viewed as a consequence of disagreements between President Donald Trump and European governments over the war in Iran.

Germany currently hosts around 35,000 active-duty U.S. military personnel – more than any other country in Europe.

No further details regarding the planned troop reductions have been disclosed. According to the report, the United States is expected to present its plans to allies at a NATO force-generation conference next month.

The Pentagon has not yet commented on the report.
