Zelensky meets Spain’s DM to discuss air defense missiles, SAFE expansion, and joint production

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on Telegram following a meeting with Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles, according to Ukrinform.

“I discussed defense cooperation with Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles. We look forward to expanding the SAFE program and the emergence of new products from our joint production,” he wrote.

Zelensky also provided an update on the situation at the front and the ongoing Russian attacks.

“I am grateful for the support provided to Ukraine’s air defense forces in the form of Hawk and Patriot missiles. These weapons are in short supply, and therefore Spain’s assistance is crucial for our defense against massive Russian attacks,” he noted.

According to the Office of the President’s website, the President expressed his gratitude to the minister, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and all of Spain for their support over the years.

“I firmly believe that all our agreements will be implemented in the near future. We are certainly interested in co-producing the latest technologies together with Spain. Our team was in Spain regarding our agreements on radars—we are eagerly awaiting these deliveries to Ukraine and want to test them all in combat conditions,” Zelensky said. 

The Spanish Minister of Defense assured continued support for Ukraine. 

The President awarded Margarita Robles the Order of Princess Olha, Third Class, for her significant personal contribution to strengthening intergovernmental cooperation, supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, charitable activities, and promoting our country around the world.

As reported by Ukrinform, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles arrived in Kyiv on April 22 for a visit.
