Zelensky: Ukraine ready for peace talks anywhere except Russia and Belarus
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made this statement in an interview with the American television network NBC News on Saturday, March 28, in Qatar, according to Ukrinform.
He said that they would never be the party that blocked, delayed, or postponed peace talks and that they were therefore ready to meet anywhere except in Russia and Belarus, as they were allies with each other and enemies.
According to Zelensky, the new conflict in the Middle East has further slowed diplomatic efforts to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The president also said he had been informed that the U.S. mediation team, led by President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the White House chief’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, would be unable to hold talks in a neutral location outside the United States during the war against Iran.
According to him, the American side proposed holding trilateral talks in the U.S., but the Russian side did not want this, even though Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev traveled to Florida for preliminary talks with his American counterparts.
Zelensky also suggested locations for potential talks—Turkey or Switzerland as possible options.
As reported by Ukrinform, the head of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation, NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov, noted that following the talks with the American side in Florida on March 21-22, there has been progress in aligning positions and narrowing the range of unresolved issues.
