Zelensky: Pressure on Russia insufficient from both U.S. and Europe
The Ukrainian leader made these remarks in an interview with Le Monde, according to Ukrinform.
“I believe this pressure is insufficient. Not only from the United States, but also from Europe, although Moscow, unfortunately, does not take Europe very seriously today. In any case, Washington could exert greater pressure. However, the policy of lifting sanctions, whatever form it may take, does not help achieve this,” the President stated.
According to him, it is evident that the partial lifting of U.S. sanctions against Russia contributes to strengthening its capacity to wage war.
“Today we see that with the lifting of sanctions on Russian oil, Moscow’s revenue amounts to billions of dollars in just three weeks. This cannot help reduce the intensity of hostilities, whether in Ukraine or in Iran, since Russia will use various means to support the Tehran regime,” he added.
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, this is already the second wave of hostilities in the Middle East, and although no one has announced a halt to aid, according to the President, under such circumstances, arms supplies to Ukraine typically slow down. That is precisely why we must be prepared for this risk.
“We must all mobilize. When I say ‘we,’ I mean all of Europe, not just Ukraine, because the war in the Middle East is a distraction—that is clear. And by diverting attention, it pushes us into the background, especially considering that this is a war in which the United States is participating—a country that for a long time was Ukraine’s main donor and then its main arms supplier thanks to European financial aid,” Zelensky emphasized.
As reported, the sanctions policy of international partners has led to a significant increase in Russia’s budget deficit, which was expected to reach about $100 billion in 2026. However, the easing of restrictions on the energy sector is already bringing the Kremlin billions in new revenue.
