Sandu accuses Russia of damaging energy connection between Moldova and Europe

President of Moldova Maia Sandu placed responsibility on Russia for disrupting the country's energy link with Europe, which led to instability in the republic's power grid.

She stated this on the social network X, Ukrinform reports.

"Russia's strikes on civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine are a war crime — and an attack on all of us. Overnight strikes disconnected Moldova's key power link with Europe," Sandu said.

She added that alternative routes have already been activated, but the situation remains unstable.

"Russia alone bears responsibility," she emphasized.

According to NewsMaker.md, residents of Moldova were urged to conserve electricity due to the shutdown of the Isaccea–Vulcanesti power transmission line. This cross-border line, which connects the energy systems of Moldova and Romania, remains de-energized after Russia's nighttime attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure.

The Moldovan government assured that measures are being taken to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers. Authorities reported that repair work is ongoing on the line.

The state-owned company Moldelectrica also stated that it is cooperating with operators in Ukraine and Romania to prevent power outages. At the same time, the company urged consumers to use electricity rationally, especially during peak hours.

As reported by Ukrinform, in Moldova, following Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine on the evening of March 23, the Isaccea–Vulcanesti power line was temporarily disconnected.
