Ukraine’s MFA responds to Iran’s threats to strike Ukraine

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called “absurd” the threats by Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s national security committee, to launch missile strikes against Ukraine in response to Kyiv’s assistance to Israel.

According to Suspilne, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said this, Ukrinform reports.

Tykhyi recalled that the Iranian regime has supported the killing of Ukrainians for years by directly providing Russia with drones and technology for its aggression against Ukraine. Therefore, it is “absurd” when representatives of that regime threaten Ukraine while referring to the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

“It's like a serial killer trying to justify their crimes by citing the law,” Tykhyi said.

It is noted that Ebrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s parliamentary committee on national security, threatened Ukraine with strikes for allegedly helping Israel with drones. In particular, he claimed that the entire territory of Ukraine is now a “legitimate target” for Tehran.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine had received requests from countries neighboring Iran for security assistance in countering Shahed drones and similar threats.

As Ukrinform previously reported, on February 28, the United States and Israel carried out joint strikes on regime targets in Iran. Following that, Iran attacked U.S. bases in Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Jordan.
