Zelensky, Merz discuss air defense missiles, peace talks
The Ukrainian leader announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"During our call, Germany's Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz and I discussed the situation in Ukraine and contacts with other leaders. I briefed Friedrich Merz on the frontline situation and our needs for air defense missiles. Intelligence indicates potential Russian strikes, and that is why it is so critical now to make every effort to ensure protection.,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, both parties also discussed the negotiation track aimed at achieving peace for Ukraine and how it could advance in light of the developments in the Middle East.
"Friedrich informed me about his visit to China and his meetings there. China holds many tools that can significantly influence Russia and its willingness to end the war. We also coordinated positions ahead of the Chancellor's meeting with President Trump in Washington," Zelensky added.
Earlier, during his visit to Beijing, Merz called on the Chinese leadership to use its influence to help end Russia's war against Ukraine.
Merz welcomed China's stated commitment to peace and stressed the need for practical steps, in particular preventing the supply to Russia of dual-use goods that could be used against Ukraine.
