G7 Leaders reaffirm unwavering support for Ukraine
This is stated in a joint declaration published on the website of the European Council, Ukrinform reports.
"On the fourth anniversary of the Russian further invasion of Ukraine in 2022, we, the leaders of the G7, reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its territorial integrity and right to exist, and its freedom, sovereignty and independence," the statement emphasizes.
The G7 leaders also expressed support for the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at launching a peace process and engaging the parties in direct negotiations.
"We acknowledge that only Ukraine and Russia, working together in good faith negotiations, can reach a peace agreement," the statement reads.
The declaration also notes that the G7 countries support commitments within the Coalition of the Willing to provide Ukraine with reliable security guarantees.
Separately, the leaders highlighted the large-scale financial and practical assistance provided to Ukraine, particularly to help the country get through the winter period. In recent weeks, partners have mobilized additional energy capacity and delivered more than 2,500 generators, as well as transformers, turbines, cogeneration units, boilers, and repair equipment. In addition, over EUR 500 million in new commitments have been allocated to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
The G7 countries also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of nuclear safety together with Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, particularly to restore as soon as possible the protective arch at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and prevent potential radiological risks.
Furthermore, the leaders supported initiatives for the immediate, safe, and unconditional return of Ukrainian children and assured continued humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian population.
As previously reported, world leaders and international institutions are expressing support for Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion.
