Western countries must truly stand up for Ukraine and provide Kyiv with all the necessary assistance to counter the aggressor.

Former Polish President Lech Wałęsa, the legendary leader of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union "Solidarity", emphasized this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“If [the West] had provided sufficient assistance, we would have forgotten about the war long ago. The Western world must defend Ukraine, but genuinely, by providing Kyiv with all the necessary resources,” Wałęsa stressed.

In his opinion, Western leaders themselves are to blame for the emergence of the concept of war fatigue in their countries.

“I would say to the authorities: You are to blame for the emergence of such voices. Because if you had taken the matter [of supporting Ukraine] seriously from the outset, they would not have appeared,” Wałęsa noted.

Referring to the scandal involving the exclusion of Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych from the Winter Olympics, the former leader of Solidarity stressed that this situation arose because, like politicians, prominent sports figures “also did not do everything in their power.”

“In the current situation, something had to be said. Since others did not do so, perhaps sport will tell the world what it should do about Ukraine,” Wałęsa stated.

As reported by Ukrinform, Hungary will block the European Union's allocation of funds to Ukraine as part of a 90 billion loan until the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline is restored.

The father and coach of Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych, Mykhailo Heraskevych, said that his son's suspension from the Olympic Games had ruined many years of work.

The IOC disqualified Heraskevych before the start of the Winter Olympics in Italy because he wore a helmet with portraits of 24 Ukrainian athletes who died during the war. In its decision, the IOC cited an article of the Olympic Charter that prohibits political demonstrations at sporting events.
