Trump involves military leaders in diplomatic efforts on Iran and Ukraine – media
According to Ukrinform, citing ABC News, U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. Brad Cooper took part in talks between the United States and Iran in Oman on the nuclear program. He arrived at the negotiations in uniform to emphasize the U.S. military presence in the region.
U.S. Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll participated in talks regarding Russia's war against Ukraine and maintained contact with Ukrainian officials between meetings.
Both diplomatic tracks are coordinated by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. According to experts, involving the military breaks with traditional U.S. diplomatic approaches and also demonstrates the administration’s readiness to consider tougher options.
As reported earlier, on February 4–5, a second round of trilateral talks involving delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Following the talks, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, said that over two days the delegations of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia discussed unresolved issues in detail, including methods for implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities.
