Putin bluffing about energy ceasefire – Lithuania’s MFA

Ukrinform
Russian President Vladimir Putin is bluffing about an energy ceasefire while continuing to terrorize Ukrainians by using the cold as a weapon.

Ukrinform reports this, citing a post by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys on X.

“Amid ongoing attempts at peace talks and Putin’s bluff about an ‘energy ceasefire’, Russia is further weaponising winter – launching a massive overnight attack on Ukraine and deliberately targeting civilian energy infrastructure, including facilities linked to nuclear power plants,” Budrys wrote.

The official added that freezing people in darkness as temperatures sharply drop is pure terror.

“These systematic strikes on energy infrastructure, including nuclear‑related objects, constitute war crimes under international law and must be met with real accountability – not merely statements of concern – including action at the ICC. Those who order and execute these attacks must face criminal responsibility,” the Lithuanian minister said.

Budrys recalled that Lithuania had recently donated generators to Ukraine worth €2.4 million, bringing its total energy assistance to more than €100 million. However, the scale of Russia’s attacks requires a commensurate increase in efforts by all partners.

“Ukraine urgently needs financial, technical, air‑defence and interceptor support. The EU, together with global partners, must accelerate deliveries without delay. Every moment of hesitation fuels Russia’s terror,” the post says.

“Words and illusions of restraint will not deter Russia. Only strength, solidarity and accountability can force an end to its war of aggression,” Budrys added.

As reported by Ukrinform, on February 7, Russia carried out another missile and drone attack on Ukraine. Russian strikes hit substations and 750 kV and 330 kV power transmission lines, which form the backbone of Ukraine’s energy grid, as well as the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants.
