Zelensky calls on Europe to block Russia's tanker fleet

The head of state said this in his nightly video address, Ukrinform reports.

"There was a report from Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service. An important part of the report concerned Russia's tanker fleet, which is operating – operating specifically for the war," Zelensky said.

According to him, Russia continues to exploit international jurisdictions and corporate cover.

"Unfortunately, the Russians are still using various global jurisdictions, under different cover of companies. They are using Europe, and this is very serious," he said.

He stressed that in 2025 alone, Russia had involved more than 122 vessels in oil trade under the management of European legal owners and operators, and emphasized the need for more active action by partners.

"Europe needs to be much more active in countering Russia's tanker fleet," he said.

He thanked partners who are ready to strengthen sanctions mechanisms.

"I thank all partners who see this in the same way and who are ready to strengthen legislation to block tankers and confiscate Russian oil," he said.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine would work on this in a bilateral format.

"Active diplomatic work lies ahead," Zelensky said.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of timely support for Ukraine.

"It is important that partners back our work by sufficient assistance to Ukraine – assistance right now. Resilience now, realism in talks with partners now, and joint results now – this is what can be the best contribution to diplomatic results right now," Zelensky said.

Earlier, Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on companies servicing Russia's tanker fleet and transporting sanctioned oil, as well as on Kremlin propagandists.
