Zelensky says Ukraine expect US response to Russia's strikes on energy infrastructure

Ukraine is awaiting a response from the United States to the strikes Russia carried out against Ukraine despite agreements to halt attacks on energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in his nightly video address, Ukrinform reports.

"We expect a response from the United States of America to Russian strikes. This was America's proposal: to halt attacks on energy infrastructure during the period of diplomacy and amid such cold winter weather. This request came personally from the President of the United States. We see that Russia responded to this request with a record number of ballistic missile strikes. Less than four days have passed out of the week Russia was asked to observe," Zelensky said.

He stressed that Russia is not keeping its word now and may continue to break it in the future.

"They lied before this war as well, and Russia launched the full-scale war while trying to deceive everyone about its intentions and about Ukraine. And now – even in such details, in such agreements with America – we again see Russian deceit. They are incorrigible in Moscow. They are trying to exploit the cold because they cannot subdue us, Ukraine, with their assaults. Russia's bet on war must be met with a response from the world," Zelensky said.

Trump stated earlier that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had agreed not to fire on Ukrainian cities for a week during extreme cold.

In the early hours of February 3, the Russian army launched strikes using several types of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones against eight regions of Ukraine. Energy facilities were among the targets.

In total, Russian invaders used more than 70 missiles and 450 attack drones.
