Britain withdraws accreditation of Russian diplomat
This was stated in an article on the UK government's website, Ukrinform reports.
According to the report, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in connection with the withdrawal of accreditation of the Russian diplomat.
A representative of the British foreign ministry stated that London strongly condemns Russia's unprovoked and unjustified decision to expel a British diplomat last month, as well as its unfounded accusations against the staff of the British Embassy.
"Summoning the Russian Ambassador, a senior FCDO official made it clear that the UK will not stand for intimidation of British Embassy staff and so we are taking reciprocal action today, revoking the accreditation of a Russian diplomat," the statement said.
The UK Foreign Office expressed disappointment that "Russia continually seeks to disrupt the work of the UK's diplomatic missions and deter our support for Ukraine."
"Any further action taken by Russia will be considered an escalation and responded to accordingly," added the FCDO representative.
As Ukrinform reported, in January, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the withdrawal of accreditation of a British Embassy employee in Moscow due to alleged involvement in the work of British intelligence services.
