Zelensky, von der Leyen discuss support for Ukraine, new sanctions against Russia

She stated this on the social media platform X following the conversation, Ukrinform reports.

"I spoke with President Zelensky this afternoon, ahead of this week's peace talks," von der Leyen said.

She noted that as Russia approaches the fourth year of its brutal war against Ukraine, it is doubling down on war crimes by attacking civilian infrastructure and homes.

"Day after day, year after year, Europe's support for Ukraine remains unwavering," she added.

According to her, the European Commission is sending hundreds of generators to Ukraine to provide heat and electricity, and has proposed a loan for Ukraine totaling EUR 90 billion over the next two years.

"We are advancing toward a single, unified Prosperity Framework with Ukraine and our US partners," she stated.

In addition, von der Leyen announced that the 20th package of sanctions against Russia will be presented "very soon".

"This is about increasing pressure on Russia to come to the negotiating table with a genuine intention to peace," she emphasized.

As Ukrinform previously reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that the next trilateral meetings between Ukraine, U.S. and Russia in Abu Dhabi will take place on February 4 and 5.
