The issue of transferring several Polish MiG-29s to Ukraine has been resolved, and technical consultations are ongoing regarding Kyiv's transfer of certain UAV and missile production technologies to Warsaw. These consultations will continue for several more weeks, and the transfer of aircraft may take place in February.

This was stated in a comment to Ukrinform by former Polish Minister of National Defense Janusz Onyszkiewicz.

“The decision on the transfer has already been made, only technical issues remain. Negotiations are currently underway on the transfer of certain information on the production of drones and missiles from Ukraine to Poland,” Onyszkiewicz said.

He added that such consultations are likely to continue until the end of January. At the same time, the transfer of aircraft may take place in February.

Onyszkiewicz also noted that, in addition to the aircraft, Warsaw is preparing to transfer another package of military aid to Ukraine, which includes, in particular, spare parts for military equipment.

As reported by Ukrinform, during his visit to Warsaw last December, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is interested in the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets from Poland, as Ukrainian pilots are trained to fly them and will not need retraining. He also stressed that the Ukrainian side had never put pressure on Poland in this matter.

Warsaw plans to transfer 6-8 MiG-29 aircraft to Kyiv, which were to be decommissioned by the Polish Armed Forces by the end of 2025.

In August last year, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski discussed the implementation and preparation for the implementation of the next 47th, 48th, and 49th packages of military aid from Poland to Ukraine.

Poland has provided Ukraine with more than EUR 4 billion in military aid.
