Ukraine welcomes US efforts to seize Russian shadow fleet tankers

Ukraine has welcomed the actions of the United States against illegal tankers, including the seizure of the vessel Olina belonging to Russia's shadow fleet. 

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated this on social media X, Ukrinform reports.

"We welcome the United States' consistent and steadfast action against unlawful tankers, including today's seizure of the Olina," Sybiha said.

He noted that the tanker Olina had been placed on the sanctions list as part of Russia's shadow fleet.

"Such resolute steps project strength and send the right messages to perpetrators," Sybiha stressed.

As Ukrinform reported, on Wednesday, January 7, U.S. law enforcement agencies and the military detained an oil tanker flying the Russian flag in the Atlantic Ocean.

On the same day, the Pentagon together with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security detained the sanctioned shadow fleet tanker M/T Sophia in the Caribbean Sea.

On the night of January 9, the United States detained the oil tanker Olina of Russia's shadow fleet near the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean Sea.
